ArcelorMittal Plant Visit

Recently, our sales experts visited ArcelorMittal in Duisburg-Hochfeld. The visit is a unique opportunity for us to get to know the other end of the value chain, which is very interesting for us, because ArcelorMittal is one of Komatsu’s loyal customers.

Duisburg is all about steel. The plant in was founded in 1851 in Duisburg. As a result, the plant can look back on over 150 years of experience. Long products for the processing industry are manufactured at the Hochfeld site. The main customers for the ArcelorMittal quality steels include automobile manufacturers and suppliers, mechanical engineering and rail production companies.

Steel production process

ArcelorMittal placed an order for two PC3000. The PC3000-6 with a special 12 cum front shovel and backhoe configuration was delivered to Ukraine. The 12 cum front shovel has been created for special operations e.g., for densities of about 2.4 tonnes per cum, the 12 cum backhoe configuration for densities of about 2.2 tonnes per cum. We also installed the "Heavy Duty Wear Package" to reduce the wear of the shovel. You will find more information in the latest issue of our CI-Brochure. Iron ore is the main mining product in the mine "Kryviy Rih" in Ukraine. It is mined as concentrate, lump and sinter feed. Kryviy Rih is an open pit and underground mine rolled into one. Spare buckets are available on-site for an ongoing operation - we keep your fleet running.

Seeing the final results e.g. steel long products.

The excavator is already running and has several hours on the clock. The PC3000-6 stands on 800mm crawler tracks and has the latest safety features e.g., handrails and steeps on the boom, special safety glass, a camera system consisting of 3 cameras according to ISO 5006. Both PC3000-6 are powered by a Tier 2 certificated diesel engine, which means 940 kW @ 1800 rpm for outstanding operation results.

It's great to know that our excavators are indirectly involved in the end product which we could see today.
